What Would I Shoot At The Masters?

If you’re a solid golfer with a handicap between 5 and 15, expect to shoot somewhere between 90 and 110 at Augusta National — even under friendly conditions.
The course rating, green speed, and layout punish anything less than precision.
I’ve been to the Masters many times, and the first thing you notice is the TV doesn’t do any justice for how huge the green undulations are.
Scratch golfers might flirt with breaking 80.
Weekend warriors?
Breaking 100 would be a badge of honor.
Augusta National: Handicap vs Reality Score
Handicap | Typical Score (Normal Day) | Tournament Score (Masters Conditions) | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
0 | 80–83 | 92 | Even scratch golfers get humbled by Augusta’s greens and pressure. |
5 | 86–89 | 99 | You’ll find out fast if your short game can handle bentgrass at warp speed. |
10 | 92–95 | 106 | You’ll survive the tee shots — but the greens will wreck your soul. |
15 | 98–101 | 113 | Every hole is a double waiting to happen. You’ll feel like a beginner again. |
20 | 104–107 | 120 | Welcome to golf hell: bunkers, trees, 4-putts, and no forgiveness. |
25 | 110–113 | 126 | Total carnage. Shanks, whiffs, water balls, 5-putts — you might run out of balls. |

How Our Augusta Score Calculator Works
Curious what you’d shoot at Augusta? Our calculator uses your GHIN Handicap Index to predict your score under both normal conditions and full-blown Masters tournament pressure.
Step 1: Plug in Your Handicap
Just enter your Handicap Index — the number used to level the playing field between golfers of different abilities. We’ll calculate your Course Handicap for Augusta based on its rating and slope.
Step 2: See Your Predicted Score
You’ll get a realistic range showing how you’d likely score on a normal day — including your lowest possible round and a higher-end “uh-oh” number.
Step 3: Activate Tournament Mode
Want to simulate a Masters-level meltdown? We apply tougher course settings and add 7 strokes for TV cameras, Amen Corner, and general Augusta-induced panic.
The Numbers Behind the Calculator
We use official USGA math: your Handicap Index gets adjusted based on Augusta’s Course Rating (78.1) and Slope Rating (137). The calculator shows:
- Your Course Handicap
- Your projected score if you play to that number
- Typical score range on a normal day
- A speculative “Tournament Score” if you played The Masters
Why Tournament Augusta Is Brutal
Normal Augusta is hard.
Masters Augusta is cruel.
Our calculator bumps the Course Rating by 2 strokes and maxes the slope rating to 155.
It also adds 7 strokes for tournament pressure — because it’s not just you, it’s you on TV with greens like glass and pin positions designed for pain.
Whether you’re dreaming of playing Augusta or just want to see how you’d stack up, the calculator gives you a fun, math-based reality check.
Go ahead — test your game.

What Would An Average Golfer Shoot At Augusta
According to the USGA an average golfer has a GHIN handicap of 14.1.
According to our Masters Score Calculator the USGA would say anywhere between 95 and 100.
Maybe at Augusta on a calm day with some friends.
But not at the Masters.
At the Masters our calculator predicts a score of 111.
I think both answers are close.
What do you think?
What Does A Scratch Golfer Shoot At Augusta?
When we plug a 0.0 into the calculator this is what we get.

A good score for a scratch golfer at Augusta would be 78 if they play to their handicap.
Again, that’s at Augusta and not necessarily in the Masters golf tournament.
I don’t think a scratch golfer would ever break 80 in the Masters and would most likely struggle to break 90.
Put even more simply, breaking 90 in the Masters should be the goal of a scratch golfer.
Regardless of handicap any amateur is going to struggle mightily on Augusta’s greens.
Unless you’ve got a short game dialed in with something like the EyeLine Putting Mirror, Augusta’s greens will destroy your scorecard.

Remember, while our calculator provides a fun estimate, nothing beats the real challenge of stepping onto the course yourself.
Have fun and share with a friend to see what they would shoot.
