What Would I Shoot At Erin Hills

World Famous Erin Hills Golf Course

Sculpted from the glacial landscapes of Wisconsin, Erin Hills presents a modern challenge that honors the age-old traditions of links golf. Its rolling fairways and undulating greens, set against the vast Midwestern sky, have already etched their mark on golf’s championship lore. What story would you write on these broad expanses? By calculating your potential score based on your handicap, our tool invites you to dream of conquering Erin Hills, a course that’s as beautiful as it is brutal, demanding your best at every shot.

The Magic Behind the Calculator

Our calculator uses your Handicap Index to determine your Course Handicap, applying the formulas used by the USGA. But what does that all mean?

Handicap Index: This is your golfing fingerprint, an average of your best scores, adjusted for the difficulty of the courses you’ve played.

It’s a number that levels the playing field, allowing golfers of different abilities to compete fairly.

Course Handicap: This number adjusts your Handicap Index for the specific difficulty of a course, allowing you to determine the number of strokes you get on any given course.

For Erin Hills, with its Course Rating of 77.9 (the score a scratch golfer should shoot) and Slope Rating of 145 (how much harder the course is for bogey golfers than for scratch golfers), the Course Handicap gives us an idea of what you’d shoot there.

How It Works

  • Enter Your Handicap Index: Simply type in your current Handicap Index into our calculator.
  • The Prediction: Like a crystal ball, our calculator works its magic to reveal your Course Handicap and the score the USGA thinks you would shoot at Oakmont Country Club.
  • We’re going to show you your score if you shoot your handicap (this only happens 15-20% of the time), your expected high and low scores and then adjust it 3 strokes for tournament play.

The Reality Check

Now, for a bit of fun — we all know that golf is unpredictable.

That’s why our calculator also gives you a “Reality Score.”

This score takes into account the jitters, the wind that just picked up, and, of course, “Swinley Forest” that could make or break your round.

It also assumes Major Championship conditions and that you are playing in the Major alongside the pros.  So we add 7 strokes for tournament pressure.

We also bump up the course rating by 2 and increase the slope because the course will be made more difficult when hosting a Major golf tournament.

So go ahead, give our calculator a whirl, and see how you’d fare at Erin Hills.

Whether you’re gearing up for your next round, dreaming of playing a course like Erin Hills, or just looking for a bit of fun, our calculator is a great way to engage with the game we all love.

What Would A 10 Handicap Shoot At Erin Hills Golf Course?

According to the USGA an average golfer has a GHIN handicap of 14.1.

So a 10 handicap is pretty good.

It’s above average.

According to our Score Calculator the USGA would say a 10 handicap would shoot anywhere between 91 and 96 at Erin Hills.

Maybe at Erin Hills Golf Course on a calm day with some friends.

But not at the US Open!

At the US Open our calculator predicts a score of 106 for a 10 handicap golfer.

I think both answers are close.

What do you think?
