The design of Pacific Dunes leverages the natural contours of the land and the ever-present wind off the Pacific Ocean, making it a formidable challenge.
A course rating of 73.0 suggests that a scratch golfer can expect to score around 73 under normal conditions.
The slope rating of 133 indicates a considerable challenge, particularly for golfers who are not used to playing links-style courses where the wind can play a significant role.
The Magic Behind the Calculator
Our calculator uses your Handicap Index to determine your Course Handicap, applying the formulas used by the USGA.
But what does that all mean?
Handicap Index: This is your golfing fingerprint, an average of your best scores, adjusted for the difficulty of the courses you’ve played.
It’s a number that levels the playing field, allowing golfers of different abilities to compete fairly.
Course Handicap: This number adjusts your Handicap Index for the specific difficulty of a course, allowing you to determine the number of strokes you get on any given course.
How It Works
- Enter Your Handicap Index: Simply type in your current Handicap Index into our calculator.
- The Prediction: Like a crystal ball, our calculator works its magic to reveal your Course Handicap and the score the USGA thinks you would shoot at Brandon Dunes Pacific Dunes Course.
- We’re going to show you your score if you shoot your handicap (this only happens 15-20% of the time), your expected high and low scores and then adjust it 3 strokes for tournament play.
The Reality Check
Now, for a bit of fun — we all know that golf is unpredictable.
That’s why our calculator also gives you a “Reality Score.”
This score takes into account the jitters, the wind that just picked up, and, of course, the undulating topography that could make or break your round.
It also assumes Major Championship conditions and that you are playing in the Major alongside the pros. So we add 7 strokes for tournament pressure.
We also bump up the course rating by 2 and the slope because the course will be made more difficult when hosting a Major golf tournament.
So go ahead, give our calculator a whirl, and see how you’d fare at Pacific Dunes.
